CES 2012: LG 'Dual Play' Does Split-Screen Gaming Without Spliting The Screen

Split-screen gaming has been around for quite some time, but has always been plagued by one huge flaw - cheaters. LG aims to change all this with their upcoming Cinema 3D HDTVs featuring Dual Play. Using Dual Play two gamers will be able to see two completely different images by wearing special glasses, eliminating the ability to scope your opponent's screen while playing.

Dual Play will first show up on LG's televisions with passive 3D capabilities in 2012 and they claim it will work with any console game that sports a top-and-bottom split-screen mode. With Dual Play enabled LG says that gamers will each see a full-screen image instead of the classic split-screen.

Sony included this feature with their recently released Playstation 3D TV, but it required an additional purchase of more expensive glasses and only a few games supported it. We haven't had a chance to see it in action yet, but it sounds like it could be pretty cool. The only downside is that we'll have to wear 3D glasses and won't get the benefit of 3D gaming.
